Homer's Upright Acoustic Bass - "Big Buco"
("Buco" means baby coconut in Tagalog.)
Well, you should read the next section first to get a complete bass history from me...   Needless to say, I realized that my experiences on bass guitar and my electric travel upright resulted in the desire to play a real acoustic bass. Here are a couple of photos of me posing with "Big Buco".   It's a 2005 Christopher's Workshop "Chicago" Hybrid 3/4 Bass (carved top/laminated sides/back) model DB303T (made in Beijing, China).

HOMER'S TANGO TRAVEL BASS - "La Cristina"
This endeavor is in honor of my wife, Cristina, who let me stay up all night on many nights to complete.

In the summer of 2004, I decided to play a musical instrument again!   I desired to understand music better as a tango dancer and teacher.   I played Tuba in high school so I thought learning a bass instrument would be a sensible choice.   For over a year I practiced on an electric bass guitar, but slowly realized that I wanted to bow the instrument as well...   However, I did not want to transition to an acoustic upright for a few reasons.   I liked the shorter 34" scale of the bass guitar and its portability and its affordability.   That's when I got the crazy idea to build an electric upright bass to meet my specific requirements.   What you see in these pictures is my not so perfect attempt - however, I'm happy, and it works!
